The Deck That Was Already Waiting: When a Deck Chooses Its Person
Her copy of the deck had not yet been made.
It was not resting on a warehouse shelf. No one had ever held it, shuffled its cards, or whispered a question over it.
And yet, when a woman opened Etsy, the deck was already waiting in her shopping cart.
Waiting for her.
It Began With an Ordinary Question
One afternoon, I received a short message from a customer:
“Could you please confirm whether this deck is used or new?”
It was a perfectly understandable and practical question.
I explained that every MOSS Universe deck is brand new and made to order. A fresh copy is produced especially for each customer after the order has been placed.
The deck has never belonged to anyone else. It has never been used, previously opened, or touched by another owner. Its physical journey begins only when someone decides to bring it into their life.
I thought that would be the end of our conversation.
But a few minutes later, another message appeared.
Suddenly, a simple question about the condition of a deck became a story about mystery, intuition, and a deck that may already have chosen its person.
The Message That Changed Everything
The customer told me that she had purchased a deck from Etsy once before. This time, however, she described feeling something she could not fully explain—a sudden pull drawing her back to Etsy.
When she opened the website, this deck was already sitting in her shopping cart.
It was simply there.
Silent.
Waiting.
Almost as if it had known she would return.
“I’m not sure if you believe in mystery,” she wrote, “but this deck was a sign for me.”
I read her words again and paused.
The deck was already in her cart.
Something had called her back at precisely that moment.
And she immediately felt that this deck was meant to come home with her.
But there was another detail that made the experience even more mysterious and beautiful.
The physical copy meant for her did not yet exist.
How Can Something Wait for Us Before It Exists?
The deck’s artwork, symbols, and story had already been created. It existed as a vision, a work of art, and a possibility.
But the physical copy destined for this particular customer only began its journey after she placed the order.
It was not waiting for her inside a sealed box.
It had never felt the touch of human hands.
And yet, somehow, the deck had already entered her story—first as a silent presence in her shopping cart and then as an unexplained feeling urging her to return.
Perhaps some things enter our awareness before they take physical form.
First, there is a feeling.
Then, a sign appears.
Only later do we understand where it was leading us.
When a Deck Becomes More Than an Object
Tarot and oracle decks are more than collections of beautifully illustrated cards.
They can become mirrors through which we encounter our inner world. Companions during moments of uncertainty. Symbolic languages that help us hear what our intuition may already be trying to tell us.
This is why choosing a deck can feel so deeply personal.
We can study its artwork, colors, and symbolism. We can compare card stock, dimensions, and guidebooks. Yet the final choice is often guided by something much more difficult to explain.
A feeling.
A quiet inner yes.
Sometimes a particular deck speaks to us before we understand why. Its images feel strangely familiar, even when we are seeing them for the first time. It captures our attention and refuses to let go.
Perhaps we do not always choose a deck simply because we find its artwork beautiful.
Sometimes, we may be recognizing a part of a story we have not yet begun to live.
Their First Meeting Had Already Happened
Her deck is now being made.
Its physical form is only now coming into existence, and soon it will travel thousands of miles before finally arriving in the hands of its new owner.
One day, she will open the package.
She will touch the cards for the first time, feel their surface beneath her fingers, shuffle the deck, and perhaps ask it her very first question.
But that will not be their true first meeting.
It will only be their first meeting in the physical world.
Their story began earlier—in the unexplained moment when something urged her to open Etsy and discover a deck already waiting quietly inside her cart.
As if it had always known where it needed to go.
Perhaps This Is What Magic Looks Like
We often imagine that signs must arrive dramatically.
Through prophetic dreams. Astonishing coincidences. A candle flame that suddenly begins to dance. A symbol that follows us everywhere we go.
But perhaps magic does not always enter our lives with thunder.
Sometimes, it is so quiet that we almost miss it.
It can be an unexpected thought. A feeling for which we cannot find a logical explanation. The sudden desire to return to a place we had not intended to visit that day.
Or a deck waiting in our shopping cart exactly when we feel called to look.
I cannot say whether this moment was coincidence, intuition, or something far more mysterious.
But I do know that the right deck sometimes appears at exactly the right moment.
Some decks we purchase.
Some decks we carefully choose.
And then there are those that seem to have always known where they belong.
Have you ever felt that you did not choose a deck—that the deck chose you?
This story is based on a real conversation with a MOSS Universe customer. Personal details have been omitted to protect her privacy.
